As a licensed nurse with many year's experience, Nancy R. Benevento knew the importance of accuracy in medical billings. Through her work in emergency rooms and with multi-physician practices, she recognized a growing need for a company that specialized in helping physicians with their billing procedures, enabling them to focus their energies on providing optimal patient care, rather than dedicating a portion of their day to being office managers. Nancy founded Expert Office Medical Billing, Inc. (E.O.M.B.) in 1995, and moved her company to Bay Village in 2002. As her reputation has grown, E.O.M.B. has gained clients not only from the Cleveland area, but also throughout the country. We met with Nancy recently, and listened as she provided this overview of her company's services;
Expert Office Medical Billing, Inc. offers a full range of medical and dental billing services designed for independent physicians and those practicing as part of a multi-specialty group. We handle the billing for a multitude of specialty physicians located throughout the United States. By incorporating our services into their overall office systems, our physicians are able to focus on doing what they do best - treating their patients - while knowing that their billing has been done promptly and accurately.
E.O.M.B operates like a family, with fifteen employees working hand in hand as a team. To ensure accuracy in billings, we have employees who specialize in only entering patient information, some only enter payments and proper insurance adjustments, and others who only specialize in the billing process. We've watched the industry grow from the days when you barely needed one code for billing purposes, to today when it's common for each procedure to require up to twelve different codes and modifiers. We are specialists at working with the insurance carriers, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Compensation, and other commercial carriers, and getting claims submitted in proper form to be paid at the maximum reimbursement allowed.
E.O.M.B. has an independent compliance and privacy plan in place, and is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which provides a high degree of confidentiality for patient information. We back-up our records daily to both an on-site and an off-site computer, in addition to maintaining an off-site tape back-up. We have more safety measures in place than most hospitals I've seen, and in the event of a computer crash, we restore our data and be back up and running within a hour. With E.O.M.B., our physicians know their data is safe and we can provide them with their complete records at any time. We pride ourselves in helping new physicians begin utilizing our system without interruption of their present office procedures, and should they decide they no longer want the services of a billing company, we provide them with the records that ensure a graceful transition back to their own, in-house system, although this is a rare occurrence.
I also do forensic consulting for attorneys and Federal Authorities. I have rendered expert opinion on coding, billing, and documentation for civil audits and quasi-criminal and criminal issues. My primary focus in these cases is to translate the complex billing terminology and procedures into terms easily understood by the clients.
We appreciate the safety of being in Bay Village, love the area, and take delight in watching the community grow. As doctors come to visit our offices, many say, "Oh, the beautiful houses! This would be a nice place to live!" We feel like advocates for Bay as we tell them, "Yes, it is. Why don't you join us?"
E.O.M.B. enables you to concentrate on doing what you do best - treating your patients. Call E.O.M.B. today and don't forget to tell them The Advocate sent you!
